CONFERENCE OE APIARISTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A conference representing the beekeepers of New Zealand opened here today, Mr. C. A. Jaeobsen, president of the National Bee-keepers' Association, Canterbury, presiding. The chairman, in his address, emphasised the necessity for improving the methods of marketing honev.

Mr. E. G. Ward, secretary of the Association, read a paper in which h'e advocated the registration of all apiaries. He moved that the Government be urged to add a clause to the Apiaries Act making the registration of apiaries compulsory within one month of the pawing ol the Act, on pain of a penalty. This was carried. i Professor T. W. Ivirk assisted the conference by explaining the existing law, governing the inspection of apiaries and the prevention of disease spreading in broods. The Foul Brood Act was -discussed, and after several speakers had complimented the Beparttnent on "the work do»e by the inspectors, a resolution was carried recommending the Bepartment te provide inspectors with motor cycles, to enable them to Cope with their work. It was decided thalt the 'Postmaster General t>e reqmested to arrange that queen bees in foreign or ocean-bome ves- ' sels be carried in specially ventilated ■ 'bag3. On the subject of the adulteration of honey, Professor Kirk said that ae did not think it was very general in New Zealand. He had not been able to prov« any. A deputation was appointed to wait on < the Minister for Lands and request that when large blocks of land are throw* open for settlement, sites be reserved! for apiarists, who should be exempt from all the clauses relating to compulsory residence.
