• SUMMARY AND FORECAST. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington. Last Night. The Meteorological Department published the following summary and forecast at 5 p.m.:—Summary.—A westerly area of low pressure now envelopes the country, and the barometer has fallen low in the south. Westerly winds prevail and gales are reported from several stations in the South Mafld. The weather has proved very unsettled in the south, and rain Iras fallen on the West Coast and in Southland. ForecastPresent indications are for westerly winds, strong to a gale, veering to southerly shortly. Cold and showery weather is probable generally, with heavy rain on the West Coast and snow on the higher levels. The barometer is very unsteadv in the south, but is lik«Yy to fall again to-morrow before a decided rise takes place.
