SHIPPING MISHAPS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Tuesday. The cutter Mana, owned by J. J. Craig Ltd., was caught in a squall in the Waihoke Channel yesterday morning and dismasted. The bulwarks and a 1 portion of her aide were torn away, and the vessel filled and sank in thirty fathoms. The crew of three igained the shore after an exciting time in a dingy propelled by half an oar. The loss is estimated at £250. The ketch Huon Belle was beached and lost her centre board. The Huon Be'lle and the crew of tihg Mana were brought to Auckland by the tug Tewahina to-day. RECALCITRANT JOURNALISTS. Whangarei, Tuesday. Owing to serious differences between the staff and manager, the whole of the employees of the Northern Advocate have struck, consequently there will foe no issue to-day. Reserved 1 judgment was delivered today in the case Police_ v. StMlin, in which the latter was charged with publishing betting charts and circulars relating to betting on horse races. The circulars and chart had been sent to the police, but there was no evidence to show who had pasted them from Nelson. The information was dismissed. SCHOONER IN TROUBLE. Gisborne, Tuesday.

A judgment, which will have Jarreaching effect if it is allowed to stand, was given by Mr. Kerr, S.M., this morning in a case under the Gaming Act against a local confectioner for allegedly 'establishing a lottery. Defendant exhibited in his window a glass globe full of small lollies and customers spending a shilling had a chance of calculating the number in the jar, for a prize of « guinea.
