The best is made by boiling very finely pulverised cork and various gums in linseed oil. When hot, this is extremely viscous. It is then spread on canvas and rolled under great pressure, till it dries and hardens. Afterwards a pattern in oil colors is printed on it. The bad and indifferent kinds are made in the same way, but a smaller proportion of cork, and a larger one of sawdust and other adulterant substanees is used.
