Mr. Foster (Minister of Customs) says that Mr. Borden has shown that Canada w resolved to stay in the Empire, fair weather or foul. Mr. Borden has made plain that a permanent policy of Empire defence is necessary, with a consulting voice, for Canada. The importance of the overseas dominions is realised in Britain now. •Mr. Foster is going to Australia in February to complete negotiations for a preferential treaty. Mr. C. .T. Dohertv. Minister of Justice, interviewed, said that penny pontage between France and Canada was -on the point of realisation.
