HOCKEY.

LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The decision of the New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association to give the annual championship tournament this season to Christohurch is hailed with enthusiasm in local ladies' hockey circles, and already active preparations are being made in readiness for the tournament. The matches will be played at Sydenham Park, and the tournament will run from September 7 to Septemlber 14. The hon. secretary of the Canterbury Association 'was advised by headquarters today that eight Associations at least will send teams, in addition to the two Canterbury teams, and possibly four other associations -will be represented. The tournament will be conducted by the committee of the Canterbury Ladies' Hockey Association, assisted by representatives of clubs who are not already represented on the committee.

TARANAKI REP. TOUR. The Tarana.ki Hockey representatives, to the number of fourteen, left by the mail train yesterday morniiig for a tour of a fortnight's duration. The team is a fairly strong one, aiid should give a goods account of itself. Jim Harris, of lnglewood, whom it was feared would not be able to make the trip owing to an injured knee, accompanies the team, and will Ibe al>le to take part. The tour will open at Hastings to-day, where the Hawke's ißay representatives 'will be played. On Thursday, Wairarapa, the holders of the Norden Hockey Chip, will be met, and it is confidently expected that the Taranaki iboys will put up a, big fight, even if they do not annex the coveted trophy. Saturday, Wellington reps, will be played at the Empire city, and next week representative matches will, be played against Manawatu at Palmerston North, and Wanganui at Wanganui.

The team to represent Wairarapa in defending 'the Norden Cup is as follows: Goal, (Morgan; full-ibacks, Dixon and W. Williams; halves, BanySievcrs and W. Williams; forwards, R. Williams, Douglas, Fisher, Tunnicliffe and Reid. The following team has been selected to represent Wanganui against Taranaki on Thursday, the 15th inst:—Goal, E. Marshall; full backs, Goss and Bathgate; halves, R. L. Soler, J. Soler, Scrivener; forwards, Gotz, Bogle, L. P. Cave, Hodges and J. Russell.
