MARS-BUCKLEY CONTEST. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 5, 10.10 p.m. Sydney, August 4. New South Wales, outclassing Queensland, won all matches in connection with the Mars-Buckley Cup contest.

NORTH v. SOUTH TARANAKI,

The following will represent the Southern Division in .the trial match against the Northern Division at Stratford on Thursday next: Full back McLeod; three-quarters, 'Hunt, Franklin, Lynskev; five-eighths, S. Cameron and Roberts; half. Column; wing forward, Taylor; forwards, Johnston, G. Ryan, Kissick (-), loung, Bourke. Emergencies: Forwards, Burgess and Reid; .back, Mculi. WAXG'AXUI MATCHES. (From our own correspondent.) Cold, showery weather dulled the expected brightness of Saturday's games. Pirates' heavy forwards were too much for the nippy Wanganui team, and the former won nicely (by 9 to 0. Pirates are now level with Kaierau for the Clip, and the play-off promises' to (be interesting. An exhibition game between Kaierau Seniors and Wanganui College (winners of the Junior Cup) was disappointing, the heavier team comfortably scoring 11 to the Boys' 5. The League game, 'Hawke's Bay to Wanganui, was poorly attended, and fell much Ibelow representative footiball form. Hawke's Bay had much the better of the game, but just won on the ca'l of time by 12 to 8. The visitors opened the scoring witli a goal; Buekland scored for 'Wanganui; 'Hawke's Bay took the lead again with a try (converted), and before half-time the locals retaliated, with a field goal. Both teams slowed down in the second spell, the locals 'being particularly tired. Wanganui gained a try (and the lead), and kept Ha/wke's Bay at bay until near the end, when Duval (broke through, scored and goaled. Much time was wasted in fruitless attempts at goal-kicking, Duval and Siddells kicking strongly for their respective sides, but generally when the ball looked like reaching the uprights the wind came along and blew the goals away. On Saturday's form the local team' can -have little chance against Auckland and Wellington this season.

THE LEAGUE GAME. NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM. Sydney, August 5, The New South Wales League team will depart for New Zealand on the 17th. The team selected is as follows: Hallett, Fraser, Croomham, Messenger, Farnsworth, Thompson, Russell. Frawley, Garliek, Davies, Norman, MoCivat, Hollo way. Cann, McCue, Sullivan Cummins, Burne. Pearce, Noble, Curran and Courtney. It is unlikely that Pearce and Messenger will accompany the team.
