BOXING.
So .Tack Johnson, the heavy-weight ehamipon boxer of the world, announces that he has finished fighting. He says that fight promoters will not give hi-ni his price, and that he will therefore retire in favor of .no one. Dan McKettriek, the cables say, claims the heavyweight championship on behalf of Joe Jeannctte. Jeannette is a colored boxer and is at present in France. He has a good record as a pugilist, and could beat any white man at present in the game, It. is problematical who is the best out of Langford, McVca and Jeannette. The fight promoter. Mcintosh (of Sydney Stadium fame) has engaged him to fight in Sydney during the coming season. McVea and Langford will meet shortly, and the winner of the fight will probably be looked on as world's champion if Johnson adheres to his decision to retire. Tommy Hunts will probably put in a claim for the championship, n.s Johnson took the championship from him. Jeannette defeated McVca some time ago after a lengthy fight.
