A Maori who was severely injured in a stand-up figlit with a European at Taupiri, on Sunday, died last night. • An inquest will be held. WOMEN'S REFORM LEAGUE. Wellington, Yesterday. At the annual meeting of the Women's Political Reform League, Wellington branch, Mrs. Newman, president, in the , annual report, said that they had every I cause to congratulate themselves on the result of the general election. Three years ago they had only fourteen members in the Wellington branch, only a few less than the number of followers Mr. Massev had in the House. Other districts had been stirred by the enthusiasm ! of Wellington, and had formed leagues Members of the league had fought un- j tiringly to insist on the right ol initiative, and only in that way could they maintain their independence. Eighteen new members were elected. WELLINGTON TRAMWAYS. Wellington, Yesterday. The City Council, after long consideration, adopted the report of the Tramway Board, recommending alterations in the penny sections and fares to provide £IO,OOO more revenue. According to a statement by the Mayor, the average length of sections is longer and the average fares' lower than in other cities of the Dominion; new sections are therefore introduced on some of ,the longer runs, and concession tickets abolished; but in place of the latter a certain amount of reduction will be made on long-distance rides. In addition to the loss on concessions, wages have been largely increased, the additional amount [ last year alone being £2OOO.
