MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE.
FURTHER REMITS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. At the Municipal Conference to-day it was decided to recommend an amendment to the Act in respect of pulling down condemned buildings, by throwing the onus of doing this oil the Public Health Department. Mr. L. Michaels (Auckland City) moved that the principle contained in the Bill prepared by the New Zealand Federated - Plumbers and Gasfitters' Association of Workers be approved. The remit was strongly criticised. The Hon. T. W. llislop considered the Bill perfectly unworkable. He pointed out that there was no provision for the withdrawal of licenses in- cases where the holders were incompetent. An amendment by Mr. Wilson (Duncdin), that the conference approve the principle oi a Dominion Conference for the registration of plumbers and gasfitters, with the right of the local \iuthority to suspend or endorse such certificate for any breach of a by-law, was adopted practically unanimously. On the motion of Mr. Hindmarsh (Wellington City), it was decided, by 26 to 10, that power be obtained to enable local bodies to re-sell land dedicated to widen streets, which land is not necessary for such purposes, subject to a condition that buildings must be set back 33 feet from the centre line of such street.
