The following will represent Denbigh Road at cribbage against Stratford on j Thursday:—!•'. Hills, W. Williams, J. I Kelly, A. Askew. W. .Moles, (.'. Divehall, F. lVdersen. H. Huckstep, W. Walker, 1). 'Walker, 0. Prince, G. Andersen, A. Mead, (1. Young, K. Neilson, G. »S. Ferguson. Tho game will be played in the Denbigh Koad School. Mr. W. S. Thompson, of the clerical staff of the railway station, who has j been transferred to Patea, will leave with his family on Friday. j A case of alleged wife-desertion, which was expected to come up at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, was withdrawn by consent of the parties, a rather sensible proeeedi?ig. The 4.20 train from New Plymouth arrived on time on Monday night, creating a record. Then last night, owing to the wretched engine service, it reverted to > its old tracks and got hero seventeen j minutes late, which meant that tho Mew Plymouth and the Whangamomona "puff-puff" were also very late in pulling out. Mr. Wm. Abbot!, mine host of the Stratford Hotel, signalised his entry into the ranks of the licensed victuallers of Stratford by donating a guinea to the football club. As yet nothing more has been heard of the proposed additions to the Post Office. When one compares the palatial edifice in Inglewood and its ample counter accommodation, to the wretched provision in this respect at Stratford, it makes one wonder if it is not a matter that ought to be attended to without 1 delay. j I BERNARD'S PICTURES. 1
The now programme submited on Monday at His Majesty's Theatre fairly captivated the unusually large audience. All the pictures screened were notable for their brilliant stereoscopic lighting—one eould almost imagine the picture actors walking out in the audience. The scenic and travel portion was of the greatest educational value, bringing before one scenes in picturesque Holland, with its great canals and windmills, and also showing the scenery of the country to advantage. Another film dealt with Tripoli, the seat the present Eastern war. One may read of Eastern habits, but to realise the methods of life one must see the living pictures, which are of the best. "The Ace of Spades" is a fine story of American life, and depicts the gambler suitably punished. The comics are what one would call comedies of real life, shown to advantage in "Hogan's Alley" and "While the Cook Slept." The latter is a remarkable film, and causes much laughter. In fact, the whole of the present bill is hard to beat, and will be shown to-night for the last time. On Thursday evening at the usual change the great Vitagraph masterpiece. "The Victoria Cross, or the Charge of 'the Gallant Six Hundred at Balaclava," will be shown, also, by special request, the celebrated pariotic Irish drama, "Arrah-na-Pogue," the acting taking places in the Emerald Isle.
Messrs J. Masters and Son specialise seed potatoes in their advertising space to-day. The '"sets" offered are of varieties that can he thoroughly recommended, and the potatoes have all .been picked over and sorted, any doubtful oneß being thrown out.
