(Fr(m Our Own Correspondents). lATAUIAMAKA. A very successful function was held i here on Tuesday evening, when a social' was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. P. McCormack 011 their leaving the distriet. Fortunately the weather was nio»t propitious, and this l'ai/t, coupled with tlie great popularity of the guests, helped to bring together a most representative gathering, inelu.'ing a goo.llv number from Okato. The programme included daneing, varied by songs and speeches. The following ladies aiid gentlemen rendered musical items:—Mrs. Berry (who gave a beautiful rendering of "Allan Water '), Miss McHardie,, Miss Williams, j and Messrs. Andrews (2), L. Carey, and Cable. Mrs. YV. Hawkins very kindly played the dance jnti.sk, while extras were given by Mrs. Madison and the Misses Carey. Landers and Smith. The piano was lent by Mrs. McHardie. Mr. Clyde, as one of the pioneers of the district, made the presentation, testifying to the great esteem in which the recipients were held by all, and emphasising the fact of Mr. McCormack's absolutely honest and straight-forward eonduct. The speaker further said that in losing M/. McCormack the district was losing one it could ill afford to spare. After wishing Mr. and Mrs. McCormack God speed and good luck, Mr. Gydo handed Mrs. McCormack a very beautiful oxidised silver cake basket, and Mr. McCormack a meerschaum pipe. After Sir. McCormack had suitably responded, Mrs. Dougherty sainl that although not their oldest friends, they were he-r nearest neighbors. Mrs. Dougherty wound up by quoting the two Scotch immortals, "Bobby" Burns and Sir Walter Scott. She also asked for a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies of the district,, who by their presence there that evening and by the exercise of their culinary skill had greatly assisted in making the send-off Buch a success.

LINCOLN ROAD. After fixing several dates, and. having to postpone them on account of wet weather and other causes, the settlers decided on Friday night last as the most suitable date for th<j social to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. A. \V. Yeates, who are leaving for Plaleombe, where Mr. Yeates has bought a farm. Mr. 0. M. Bold I' presided, and, in opening the proceedings, referred to the pleasure it was to strike a fine night for the function,,, but the words were scarcely out of his mouth when down came the rain. Nevertheless, the schoolhouse was crowded, several coming from Inglewood. The following ladies and gentlemen contributed items:—Pianoforte duet, Mrs. P. Hoby and Nancy Yeates; vocal duet, Mary Glassford and Margaret Young; song, Mr. Meston; recitation, Mary Glassford; song, Mr. Walter Matthews; vocal duett, Mr. and- Mrs. P. Hoby; song, Miss Glassford; song, Mr. Pat FoxRogers; song, Mrs. S. A. Bishop; recitation, Mr. Thomas; pianoforte duet, Mrs. Hoby and Jack Yeates; song, Mr. Walter Matthews; song. Mrs. Glassford; song, Mary Glassford; recitation, Mr. Me&ton; song, Mr. Reggie Fox-Rogers; song, Mrs. Hoby; song, Mrs. F. Knofflock; song, Mr. Pat Fox-Rogers; pianoforte solo, Mrs. Orbell. The chairman, after referring briefly to Mr. Yeates' sojourn and work among them,, especially as chairman of the branch of the N.Z. Farmers' Union and on school committees, called on Mrs. Glassford to make _ the presentation, which she did in her usual happy manner. Mrs. Yeates was the recipient of a silver teapot and Mr. Yeates a travelling rug, and Nancy Yeates received a bib with all her playmates' names written in.
