STORMY WEATHER.

SLIPS IN WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The weather to-day is less violent, there being little wind, but it is cold and wet. Yesterday was very wet and miserable, and all outdoor games were suspended. There have been several landslips about the city. One blocked the Karori tramway and carried away the telephone and telegraph wires, which were left dangling. By special efforts one set of rails was cleared to allow traffic to proceed yesterday. It is estimated that it will take several days to clear away the whole fall of earth, and there are, with the continuance of the present weather, dangers of additional slips. Several tons of earth have come down at Kelbume. At Scorching Bay a heavy slide came down on a whare and smashed the back wall. The occupants had just time to get out.

WINTER IN CANTERBURY.

Christchurch, Last Night. Steamers arriving at Lyttelton this moTtiing reported a strong gale, heavy seas ami wintry weather off shore. Telegraph despatch woik to both North and South Island stations was carried on under difficulties Only one wire, whieh ia fortunately a "quad," connected the North and South Island, via Nelson and flreymoutli. At 2 p.m. to-day (100 messages were waiting at the Christchurch office to be despatched. Linemen have boon sent to effect permanent repairs to the lines bi-twcen Kaikoura and Waiau. The heaviest and most prolonged fall of snow remembered by the oldest inhabitants has been experienced at Hanmer Springs.
