A SERIOUS STRIKE. By Cable—Press Association—Gopyright. New York, July 20. Striking miners at Charleston, West Virginia, fought the police during riots in ths Point Creek district.

Seven detectives' employed to report on the miners' doings were engaged cleaning a machine gun used to overawe the miners, when some dynamite exploded near by, killing the detectives, and also three miners who were standing near. Militia are camping in the neighborhood in consequence of the' disturbed conditions.

A serious strike of miners is threatened at Daylesford, and it is hinted that the matter may extend beyond Victoria. A meeting on Sunday will decide whether to strike. VIOLENT SPEECHES RESENTED. Glasgow seamen and firemen oppose a national strike as a protest against the violent and ridiculous speeches in London by the dockers' leaders. A REIGN OF TERROR. FATAL BATTLE. Received 29, 12.20 a.m. New York, July 28. The fatal battle between detectives and strikers at Charlestown, West Virgina, waa followed by continuous clashes with the militia and strikers. Three companies of State Guards conducted a regular engagement with the strikers, who were well armed, and sniped the militia camp continuously. Refugees, numbering hundreds, are fleeing to Paint Creek, declaring that a reign of terroT prevails.
