The Mayor, Mr. 0. W. Browne, te aves tins morning for Wellington to attend the Municipal Conference. He will be away about ten days. News has been received from Melbourne that Mr. Reynolds Denniston, of the Plimmer-Denniston Comedy Company, is still confined to his bed in Kalgoorlie, and that it is feared that his heart 19 affected as the result of th« severe illness he has been suffering from It 13 doubtful if he will be able to reioiH the company for the Xew Zealand toil* m September.
Mr. Robert Parker, on retiring from the conductorship of the Wellington Musical Union, was entertained at a social last night, and presented with a, purse of 150 sovereigns. The presentation was made by Mr. G. ShirtelifTe, president of the union. Bishop Sprott wag amongst the speakers. Mr. Parker lias been closely identified with musical art in Wellington for the last thirty-three years.
