1 SUMMARY AND FORECAST. r j "" By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Meteorological Department published the following summary and forecast at 5 p.m.:—Summary.—The barometer is still very high in the south and low in the north, and with a falling tendency everywhere, except on the West Coast of the South Island. The iweather has been gloomy and showery, •with heavy rain in several districts. Easterly to southerly winds have preirailed, strong to a gale in parts. Forecast—Present indications are for raw and unsettled weather generally, with heavy rain over _the North Island and the north-eastern portion of the South Island especially. Snow on higher levels, and bail showers in parts. Easterly to aouth-easterly winds, strong to a gale, are probable generally. A further decrease in the barometric pressure is expected before a rise, which is due to take place by Saturday evening.
