LIQUOR CASES.
TWO DANNEVIRKE CHARGES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Danneviiko, Last Night. Mr. S. E. McCarthy, S.M., was occupied to-day hearing charges against Henry Baker, licensee of the Club Hotel, for allowing youths under twenty-one years to be supplied with liquor for consumption on the premises. Colin Douglas Henry Baker (his son) and Annie' Baker (wife of the licensee) were charged with supplying liquor to youths for consumption on the premise's. The youths were alleged to have purchased whisky and drunk, it in a private room. The licensee said that he turned them out when he learned that the youths were on the premises. The other defendants did not remember serving them. Decision was reserved.
An employee at the same hotel was fined £1 for supplying liquor to a native woman, such liquor not being supplied for medical purposes upon the authority of a registered medical practitioner. The liquor was bought and sent to the. pa at Tahoraiti for the purpose of entertaining the Dannevirke Hunt at the conclusion of a recent run. It was not partaken of by natives. The purchaser was charged with taking intoxicating liquor into a pa. Counsel contended that the carrier who took the liquor to the pa should have been charged with the offence. Decision was reserved.
