THE WEATHER
. SUMMARY AND FORECAST. By Telegraph—Preta Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Meteorological Department published the following summary and forecast at 5 p.m.:—Summary. —The barometer has been very high in the south, :K)-70 being recorded to-day, but the pressure remained relatively low in the north. Stormy and wintry weather has been experienced in and about Cook Strait. Fair to cloudy and cold weather is reported in Otago and Westland, but cold and showery weather generally with strong easterly' winds is predominating. Forecast.—Present indications are for strong easterly winds, squally in parts, and veering to northerly. The temperature will probably become somewhat milder with increasing humidity, especially in the north. Changeable, misty and showery weather is indicated at present, though temporary improvement may take place before the storm area now apparently developing on the Tasman Sea arrives, with a rapid decrease of barometric pressure.
