LIQUOR FOR MAORIS.
THE TO HUNG A CASE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. Mr. Thompson, S.M., delivered judgment in the case in which William J. White, of White's Hotel, Foxton, was sued, as licensee for permitting the sale of liquor to a native. The sale was made by a barmaid to the tohunga. Hingawata Tuparoa, concerned in the al- \ leged rape case, whilfe White was absent from Foxton. The barmaid had already been fined £5 and costs on two charges, and the magistrate now held that the licensee was legally responsible, even though the sale was made against hia orders, and fined him JC2 and costs on each of two charges.
