SUBSIDISED CABLES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, July 20. In the House, Mr. Thomas, in reply to a question as to the amounts paid by the Treasury in connection with the subsidised cable service, said it was £1770 in 1910-11. and C 1927 in 1911-12. No loss had been incurred, owing to the payment of the subsidy, because of the increased revenue obtained from the Pacific cable and the land-lines, while the competition Jiad forced the other association largely to increase its cable service.

Melbourne, July 20. Geelong has been selected as the site for the Federal woollen mills. They arc to be established for making cloth for uniforms for the defence force and postal and other Commonwealth employees.
