The morning was ! cloudy. Wood won the toss and sent his men in. Matthews and Whitty began the bowling. Leicestershire gave a moderate display, Wood and Mounteney adding 41 for the second wicket. Mounteney hit vigorously. Coe and Wood added 53 for the sixth wicket, Coe cutting six fours. Wood opened the innings. The seventh batsman was out, caught in the slips from a kicking ball off his hand. Woorl played a faultless innings lasting 130 minutes. . He hit four fours. The century took 75 minutes, and 200 went up after 145 minutes. The innings lasted 155 minutes. The Australians went in to bat, but lost Jennings early, he being taken, sharply at third slip. Mayne and Smith hoisted 50 after 25 minutes' play. Bardslcy and Mayne added 54 for the third wicket. Mayne, who did some good cutting, was at the wickets for 80 minutes.
