LAND BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Taranaki Land Board resumed its adjourned monthly meeting yesterday, when there were present the Commissioner (Mr. Billiard), and Messrs. Heslop, Rattenbury, and McCluggage. The district surveyor reported on the application of Mrs. H. T. Maxwell, for about 00 acres, comprising part of the Taurakawa block, which the Board decided it could not entertain. The application of the Ohura County Council to have the Crown lands in the Waro survey district put on the market as early as possible was left in the hands of the Commissioner.

P. M. Long's application to lease part of the Whangamomona township reserve was deferred for the ranger's report. A. Cameron applied for a refund of part of the rent paid on section 4, block 8, Upper Waitara, surrendered by him, and the Board resolved that the matter be dealt with when the land is again selected.

It was decided to confirm R. F. Beautrais' forfeiture of section 3, block 12, Mapara, and to offer the land for selection. Janet Eide wrote stating that she would have to forfeit section 4, block 7, Waro, as she was unable to live on it.—lt was resolved that if she could within six months find a landless person to whom a transfer could be effected at a reasonable consideration, to bo approved bv the Board, it wouldi recommend the transfer, or that she be allowed to admit her husband to partnership, provided lie resided on the land.

The Public Trustee intimated that no greater damage would be done to the bush on section 84, block 10, Pouatu, than was necessary for the purpose of the construction of a railway. Ine application of the Waitaanga Settlers' Association to set aside part of section 10, block 7, Waro, a3 a recreation reserve, was deferred for the ranger's report. The Ohura branch of the New Zealand Fanners' Union applied for land near Mangaroa to be opened for workers' homes, which matter was left in the hands of the Commissioner. DEFAULTING SELECTORS.

Ranger E. Tolme reported on the inspection of eighteen holdings, on which the improvements required were £2904, and those effected £6199. Two settlers were in default for improvements and residence, and two for residence alone. —lt was resolved that action be taken as recommended in the report. J, Martin forwarded a declaration of residence on section 4, block 4, Opaku, which the Board decided to accept. Six months' extension of time for his family to reside on section 15, block 1, Tangitu, was granted to J. Andrew APPLICATIONS FOR FREEHOLD.

W. Winmill's application for the freehold of section 23j block 4, Ngatimaru, was approved, conditionally upon the requirements of the Public Works Department as to railway being provided for.

A. T. Macalpin applied for the freehold title of section 11, block 12, Waitara, and his application was passed subject to the ratification of the value of improvements by the ranger GENERAL.

The Waitomo County Council's application to pledge thirds for the payment of interest 011 a loan in Aria special rating area was deferred for the ranger's report. The Commissioner advised the Board that its action in making the granting of improved farm leases conditional on the redemption of the sale had been approved.

It was .resolved that a copy of A. Barnett's letter, asking that part of the thirds from section 2. block 9, Aria, be diverted to another part of the Waitewhenua road, between the above section and section 1. block 1, Oliura, be forwarded to the countv council, 'and that it be informed that" the Board requests that the desire of the applicant be given effect to.

It was decided to dispose of the eastern part of section 4, block 10, N«atimaru, to M. O'Neill, at a price of £1 per acre. A license of section 10, block 11 Mapara, was issued to W. J. Cartwright, section 19 ; block 3, Ngaere. L. Spiers to D. M. Seott, section 20, block 3, Waimate. 11. Goble to T. F. Walsh and E. W. Gibbs, section G2, Mo,a district. W. Coleman to S. D. and H. Coleman, section 14, block 13, Ngaere. A sub-lease of an Education reserve was approved from W. Sharrock to R. H. Campbell, section 2, block 2, Ngaere. Mr. 11. T. Twiss was appointed appraiser for the Board in the matter of the renewal of the lease of sections 0 and 7, section 189, Patea district, which [expires on October 31. 1910,

Thc Board decided that it had no recommendation to make in regard to the request of the town clerk of the New Plymouth Borough Council that steps bo taken to prevent further erosion by tha sea of reserve E, New Plymouth. The Commissioner submitted a draft form of lease of mining .rights.—lt was resolved to leave the matter in his hands to prepare a draft for submission to the Crown solicitor for approval. C. E. Raby notified that lie had transferred section 15, block 13, Waro, to A. W. and 11. Kemp.—Approved.
