AWARDS FOR BRAVERY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christehurch, Last Night. The Royal Humane Society of New Zealand has made the following awards: Richard J. Fernis, rescuing J. Nisbett from drowning at Auckland on April 17; certificate. Wm. IT. Douglas, attempting to rescue Cordon Brown from drowning at Gisborne on April 11; bronze medal. Dorothy Irwin, rescuing Margaret Peake from drowning at Timaru, on March 4, 1011; letter of commendation. Dr. Johnson and Dr. Dillner. rescuing Mrs. Corbott from drowning at Napier, November 3, 1011; certificate, Tawhai Kara, rescuing Eric Jones from drowning at Napier, on January 10; certificate.
Walter H. Gordon, rescuing Mrs. Brown from death on the railway, at Hastings, on May 22; silver medal. Harete Herangi and Mary Iloriri, rescuing Alice B. Hallett from drowning at Mercer on February 11; certificate. Mary Anne Coyle, rescuing Florence M. Underwood from being burned at the Union Collieries on uctober 1, 1911; silver medal.
At the annual meeting of the Society last year's officers were re-elected, with the addition of the Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Massey) as one of the vice-patrons. Of thirty-seven applications received, thirty-two were considered worthy of recognition. The report regretted that assistance from the public was not more liberal.
