Mr. J. B. Hine, M.P., was in town yesterday. Mr. T. D. Walsh, of the local Telegraph Department, left this week for Oamaru. on transfer Chief-Detective Marsack has been appointed sub-inspector at Palmcrston North, and Detective Sergeant MacMahon has been appointed chief detective. Mr. Lindegreen. lately Opposition Organiser, but now Government Organiser, is at present in Eltham. lie will probably make that town his headquarters whilst organising in Taranaki. The following Taranaki candidates were successful in passing the recent examination of nurses, with their position on the list as to order of merit: —H. Flynn (Hawera), fourth; D. Baker (New Plymouth) tenth.

On the occasion of his marriage on Wednesday, Mr. J. Crombie, of the local Telephone Exchange, was presented by his associates in the Postal Department witli a useful tea service and salad bowl as a token of their fraternal esteem.

During the progress of the banquet to the New Zealand Jersey Breeders' Association at Stratford, Mr. Haleombe announced that Mr. R. J. Linn had been elected to fill the vacancy on the executive caused by the elevation of Mr. Tapp to the presidency. Mr. H. M. Bannister, chief clerk of the Taranaki Land Board, has been promoted to be chief clerk in the district office, Wellington. At its meeting yesterday, the Board congratulated Mr. Bannister on his promotion, and at the same time recorded its regret at losing the services of so valued an officer. Mr. Bannister will be much missed at New Plymouth, where his courteousness and efficiency have earned him much esteem. He is also a prominent member of St. Mary's Church,
