Heavy Tain in Wellington interfered considerably with the attendance at the first day of the Wellington Racing Clubs winter meeting. The rainfall was [less at Trenthain during the afternoon. The course, however, and enclosures were very heavy. There wore a number of spills, but the jockeys escaped inijury. A sum of' £12,883 was put [through the totalis?.'.or, a falling off of £3812 as compared with the corresponding day last year. At a meeting of the Taranaki Metro-, politan Committee, licenses for the year 1912-13 were granted as follows: Trainers: Thos. Pine, B. T. Bennett, W. J. Goodwin, P. Brough, P. J. Milne, T. F. Goddard, P. Coffey, jas. Brown, J. P. Johnson and J. George. Jockeys: E. George, C. Cochrane, R. J. Milne, Tim Jones, E. C. Fitzwatcr and W. J. Porter. Notice was received from the Wanganui Club that it had suspended the jockey's license held by R. J. Lambert for failing to appear before the Metropolitan Committee when requested to do so. The same club had also cancelled Ed. Copestake's jockey's license for disorderly conduct.
