ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

A SENSATIONAL ACCIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Taihape, Wednesday. Yesterday afternoon, while a team of six horses was hauling timber logs over Gibbs' suspension bridge, across the Otaihape, at Utiku, one side of the cables gave out, tipping all into the river, a drop of about two hundred feet. Up to the present there lias been no trace of the men and horses. The men were named Ernest Pink and Richard Hop wood. Both were single.

FOUND DROWNED. Gore, Last Night. The body of the man Field, aged 21, who left his home at Waiwera South on Sunday for Pomahaka Downs, was found in the Pomahaka river last evening. MOTOR ACCIDENT. A nasty mishap befel Mr. E. Nalder near Kaupokonui on Tuesday afternoon. It appears that a week ago, while coming in in his ear from Manaia about dusk, he ran into some cattle, which were grazing on the road—a bugbear with all motorists. On Tuesday he was coming from Otakeho, and at the big bend in the road just before reaching Kaupokonui, having noticed a weakness in one wheel, he slowed down. The wheel, however, came off, and the car capsized. Mr. Edwin Burke, who was travelling with him, was thrown clear into the hedge, and escaped serious injury. Mr. Nalder, not so fortunate, was pinned under the car. Mr. Burke managed to free him, and ho was taken on to Manaia. Dr. Milroy vis billed in, and on examination found that no bones were broken. Further examination when Mr, Nalder reached home showed that the muscles of one hip and one arm were pretty badly strained and bruised. Last night and this morning he was suffering considerably, and he will probably be confined to his room for some time. The strain to the car when the cattle were run into a week previous doubtless led to the weakness in the wheel, which, in its turn, led to Tuesday's accident. Hawera Star.

THE BUSH-FELLIXG FATALITY. An inquest was hold at Urenui yesterday 'before Mr. C. X. Rose, actingcoroner, concerning the death of the young man William Joseph Renton, who was killed at Okoke on Monday afternoon whilst hush-felling. A verdict of accidentally killed was returned.
