Holmann Rosenthal, a noted gambler, who recently charged the police with extensive graft operations, was shot dead in the street. It is alleged he was about to reveal scandalous conditions in the Police Department, with respect to graft. Louis Hibby was captured and charged with the crime. A great sensation was created.

The Senate adopted a resolution denouncing any attempt by the President to influence a vote within the Senate's exclusive jurisdiction. The resolution is considered a" severe rebuke to President Taft for allegedly influencing Republican Senators against Senator Lorimer. The Democratic leader, Mr. Underwood, declares that the party's chances were never brighter, and that Woodrow Wilson is certain to be elected President.
