NEW ZEALAND CONFERENCE. Wellington, Tuesday. The New Zealand Boxing Conference opened to-day. The proposal to establish North Island and South Island championships was vetoed. Mr. Isaacs (Dunedin) moved that entries for championships he lirriited to one entry from each class from each affiliated body. An amendment was moved by Mr. Cooper (Timaru) that the entry in each class be limited to six. The motion was carried.
It was moved by Mr. Cooper (WangaJiiii) that the rules be so altered as to provide for the appointment of an official announcer for the championship meetings. Mr. Goodwin (Timaru) proposed as an amendment that there should be an official announcer for all meetings. The motion was carried on the voices. It was decided' that the duties of the announcer should be to introduce the contestants and announce their class and weight. He is to obtain from the-judges their decisions, and if they are in agree ; ment lie is immediately to announce the decision. If they disagree he is to refer the matter to the referee, whose decision he is to announce.
On the motion of Mr. Beauchamp Platts (Wellington) it was resolved that in the opinion of this association it should be understood that in the case of any association importing a professional from Australia, and whilst in the Dominion such professional is engaged by associations other than the one which imported him, his travelling expenses to and from Australia should be shared pro rata by the associations under whose auspices he appears. The conference also decided, on the motion of Mr, Goodwin (Timaru), that in the event of the New Zealand championship meeting extending over more than one evening, the competitors must weigh in on each evening on certified scales.
It was resolved to recommend the council to hold the next New Zealand championship meeting in 1913, and that the next Australasian championship meeting be in Dunedin. ' On the motion of Dr. O'Brien; (Palmerston North) it was resolved that no relative of any competitor be permitted to judge or referee at a meeting in the bout in which such competitor is engaged.
Referring to the bout at the championship meeting between McMorran (Wellington) and Olliver (New Plymouth), the Dominion says: "This was an example of the natural fighter prevailing over the pure boxer without ringcraft. Olliver had all the advantage in reach, and he could give and stop a blow well. He did hand out some very good rights to McMorran's face and body, but the left, the weapon he should: have won with, hq used far too little. McMorran's only real merit was sheer pugnacity and strength."
