A i: -wspaper correspondent suggested the desirableness of the municipality instituting relief works, but the Mayor states that, so far as he is advised, there is no necessity for such works, and the town clerk states that the present winter is the quietest experienced for some years in the matter of enquiries for work at the City Council olfiee. DAMAGE AT NELSON. Nelson, Last Night. The south-east gale, the worst experienced for some years, was ragin« tonight. During the height of the bfow a small tower on the Methodist Church was demolished. Trees were uprooted, and much damage done to fencing.
