THE FRENCH STRIKE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Paris, July 14. The seamen strikers, accompanied by their wives, made a demonstration at Marseilles against the, rise in the price of bread, and stoned the police. Ten of the latter and twenty strikers were injured, some seriously. ' Revolver shots were exchanged, and sixty arrests effected. TROUBLE WITH TALLY CLERKS. Received 10, 1.5 p.m. Sydney, July 15. The wharf laborers at several wharves refused to work with non-unionist tally clerks. The difficulty was overcome by the substitution of unionist clerks. A significant request was recently made of the shipping companies and' Stevedores' Association by the Clerks' Union for a conference to discuss wages conditions. It was stated that if no conference in the meantime was granted, a mass meeting would be held on Sunday to consider the situation. The clerks claim to have the backing of the waterfront unions.
