Railway communication was not interrupted, though the low-lying ground is submerged, the rails at the lowest point j being still a couple of feet above the j water. North Taieri is under water in parts, and a considerable stretch is inundated in the Otakaia and Henley ' districts. THE RAIN IN SOUTH CANTERBURY. Timaru, Last Night. The rain ceased about 2 a.m. The total fall at Timaru during this storm was 3.7 inches. A good deal of anxiety I was felt at Temuka last night, as the river rose to high-flood level, and several , families had to remove from their dwellings.
