FLOODS IN THE SOUTH.
COUNTRY SUBMERGED. By Telegraph—Press Association. : Dundein, Last Night. The flood in the Taieri river was 10ft below the record flood in 1908. Railway communication was not interrupted, though the low-lying ground is submerged, the rails at the lowest point j being still a couple of feet above the j water. North Taieri is under water in parts, and a considerable stretch is inundated in the Otakaia and Henley ' districts. THE RAIN IN SOUTH CANTERBURY. Timaru, Last Night. The rain ceased about 2 a.m. The total fall at Timaru during this storm was 3.7 inches. A good deal of anxiety I was felt at Temuka last night, as the river rose to high-flood level, and several , families had to remove from their dwellings. In the low-lying part of the borough the water was over the railway line, and a few low lakes formed he- '. tween Timaru and Studholme, hut no material damage was done. A good deal of land along the coast is submerged, all ; the lagoons being full to overflowing. j Fortunately the rain was warm, and I stock will not suffer much by the storm. / To-day has been clear and bright.
