IMPERIAL POLITICS.

"SINGLE-TAX LUNACY." By Cable—Press Assotittion—Copyright. London, July 11. Mr. Bonar Law, writing to Mr. Wittner, Unionist candidate for Hanley, stated that the Radicals had suddenly become advocates of single-tax, a form of lunacy which recurs at irregular intervals, an extreme which is more absurd than the Labor Party's socialism. LAND NATIONALISATION. Received 12, 9.40 p.m. London, July 12. A meeting of Liberal and Labor members of the House of Commons has formed a strong committee to further the acquisition of land by the Central Government and local authorities, based on Government taxation values. It is understood that the intention is to prepare a memorandum concerning the nationalisation of land for presention to the Prime Minister and Mr. Lloyd George. The committee disclaim any opposition to Mr. Acland's committee. The Daily News on July 1 announced that Mr. Lloyd George had inaugurated a far-reaching enquiry into the land question in England and Wales, and is appointing a commission, with Mr. Francis Dyke Acland as chairman. THE GAMBLING BILL. TREATMENT OF TUBERCULOSIS. THE NAVY ESTIMATES. Received 12, 10.15 p.m. London, July 12. In the House of Lords the Bishop of lien ford's Anti-Gambling Bill was withdrawn, the Primate having disowned the measure. Lord Lansdowne severely criticised various clauses. He stated that the Government was unable to support the Bill. In the House of Commons, Mr. J. Grant (Unionist member for Cumberland) moved the adjournment to call attention to the Government's inability to provide sanatorium benefits under the Insurance Bill. Mr. Masterman replied that the existing institutions for the treatment of tuberculosis were at the disposal of insurance committees for domiciliary treatment, and they could commence forthwith. The Daily News states that the Admiralty is aski?ig for an increase, probably of four millions, on next year's estimates.
