. TIMARU-CHRISTCHURCH ROAD RACE. By Telegraph —Press Association. Christchureh, Last Night. Messrs. H. H. Fraser and T. Turtill (representing the South Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union) yesterday, in conjunction with Messrs. W. Crawshaw and C. Leaning (representing the North Canterbury centre of the union), conferred with the members of the wholesale and retail cycle and rubber trades, with reference to the proposed promotion this year of the. Timaru-Christchurch road race, conjunctly by the two centres. The opinion of all those who were interviewed on the subjetft was that from a sporting point of view it was highly desirable that the event should not he allowed to lapse. A subscription list was opened up with most encouraging results, prizes ito the value of nearly £2OO being ! readily donated. It is anticipated that the list when closed will total £3OO. The actual date of the race has not yet been definitely decided upon, but it will most likely be Thursday, September 12. This would allow intending competitors in the Warrnambool-Melbourne road raee an opportunity of competing.

CIRCULAR ROAD RACE. A meeting of the Circular Road Race Committee was held in the Criterion Hotel last night, when Mr. Williams pre- ! sided over a good attendance. | The president reported that the executive had arranged with the Hunt Club and the Taranaki Jockey Club for the use of the New Plymouth racecourse on Sentember 5. The Hunt Club had decided to forego their race meeting, and had promised to assist the committee as far as possible. The Hunt Club had also suggested that a jumping competi' tion should be held on the course that day as an addition to the programme. Donations towards the prize list still continue to come forward. Magnus, Sanderson, Co.. of Wellington, donate a bicycle, and "Interested" also gives a set of Ilutcliesin's tyres.

The entertainment committee notified that the Royal Pictures entertainment had realised £lO, the second euchre party at Fitzroy (a very wet night) 6s, and that at West Fnd £2; a total so far of £lB odd. The entertainment committee wUI also interview Mr. Saunders, of ®he Empire Pictures, in reference to his offer to assist.

The programme was adopted as follows : —First prize, Bribtania Tyre Challenge Cup (for annual competition), valued at 50 guineas, also £SO cash and gold medal value £5 (presented by the N.Z. Athletic Union); second, £ls cash and 1911 Model Road Racer, value £ls 15s; third, £lO cash and 1911 Model Road Racer, value £ls 15s; fourth, £5 cash and 1911 Model Road Racer, value £ls 15s; fifth, 1912 Model Road Racer, value £ls 15s; sixth. £3 3s cash and seti of tyres value £2 10s, donated by A. G. Healing and Co., Christchurch; seventh, £2 2s cash and set of tyres, value £2 10s, donated by Mr. Arnold George, New Plymouth; eighth, £2 2s cash and set of Hutcheson tyres; ninth, £2 2s cash; tenth, £1 Is cash. Fastest time, £2O cash (including £ls 15s donated by Brittania Tyre Company) and gold medal, value £5 ss, donated by the Dunlop Tyre Company; second fastest time, £5 cash and gold medal, value £3 3s. The Continental Tyre Company's trophy will be awarded to the fastest time put up by a rider under the age of 21 years. A medal,, value '£3 3s, will also be awarded the iTaranaki rider obtaining fastest time. For the motor cycle race, five miles, the prizes will be:—First: Set Britannia, tri-car motor cycle tyres, value £7 10s, donated by 'the Britannia Tyre Company; second, pair motor cycle tubes, value £1 10s.

Entries wil close on August 10. Mr. A. Hansen (Eltham) was appointed handicapper, and Mr. A. G-eorge assistant handieapper.

The offer made by the Taranaki Garrison Band to supply a programme of music on the Racecourse on the day of the race was accepted with thanks.
