RUGBY ROUGHS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, Last Night. Several players who had been ordered off the field last Saturday appeared before the Wellington Rugby Union last evening. Ashton, of the Petone Club, who struck another player, was disqualified until the end of the season. In the case of Gilchrist, of the Melrose team, the referee wrote stating that he considered that had he only warned the player instead of ordering him off the field it would have been sufficient. It was decided to take no action. Martin, of the Petone Club, and Routley, of the Upper Hutt team, were reported for fighting. The referee stated that Martin struck at Routley and the latter shaped up, and then they both prepared to fight. He then ordered them off. As no blows were struck Martin was suspended for three playing Saturdays and Routley is to be cautioned.
