The Corinna arrived from Wellington yesterday morning with 120 tons of general cargo. After loading a amall quantity of general cargo she sailed for southern ports, via Onehunga. THE PUTIKI. | The. Putiki left Wesfport yesterday | morning for New Plymfiuth with about j 350 tons of Stockton coal. She is du£ j here this morning. I THE AWAHOU.
The Awahou, which arrived in Wellington on 'Saturday, is very similar in appearance to the Himitangi (the vessel she is replacing), but is somewhat broader and longer. She is a twin-screw steel schooner-rigged vessel of 407 tons'gross and 151 tons net. . Her length is 140 ft, beam 25.15 ft, depth of hold 9.5 ft. There are two holds, with- the' fore-hatch measuring 24ft Oin by 14ft and the afterhatch 21ft by 14ft. There are four horizontal steam winches for the quick handling of cargo.
THE LATEST RED FUNNEL. "Niagara" ig the name finally' decided upon for the new 13,n00-ton steamer now under construction for the Union Company. This magnificent vessel will', be 522 ft in length, with a beam of G6ft. She will burn oil fuel to generate steam for the propulsion of her twin reciprocating engines, and the latter will be supplemented with a Parson's turbine amidships. This powerful equipment is designed to propel the Niagara at a speed of 17 knots under ordinary service conditions, and the fittings and furnishings of 'the vessel generally will embody all the latest and best that long experience and skill can suggest to ensure comfort and safety at sea.
