For the football .match between New Zealand and ■ Australia the weather was perfect. The attendance was 8.000. The teams were as follows; Australia—Full-back, Duffin; threequarters, Bickey, Quinn, Messenger and Lynch; five-eighths, Farnsworth; half, Heidke; forwards, Cann, McCue, McMurtrie, Fahey, Schetz, Maekay. New Zealand.—Full-back, Hargrearces; three-quarters, Weston, Bradley, Kenneally; five-eighths, Moir and Carlow; half, Barber; forwards, Dervan, Dunning, Evans, M. Hayward, King, Rukutai. The first half was splendidly contested, both teams showing brilliant combination. The tackling was deadly. For New Zealand King and Rukutai scored tries, and Hargreavea converted the last one. For the Australians Hickey scored and Messenger converted. The second half was strenuously contested, and a. number of players were temporarily laid out. Off-side play lost the m.¥tch for the New Zealanders. Dunning kicked a penalty goal and Messenger kicked, four magnificent penalty goals, two from the centre. There was intense excitement in the closing stages. Heidke was ordered off for kicking an opponent. The final ficore was: Australia 13, New Zealand 10.

WELLINGTON RESULTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The senior Rughv competition was continued yesterday in fine weather. Results:—Petone 27 beat St. James 8; Oriental 32 beat Southern 11; Athletic 11 beat Wellington 5; Melrose 14 beat Poneke 11. Ashton (Petone) andi Gilchrist (Melrose) were 'ordered off the field for rough play. In the gehools competition. Stratford" beat Fitzroy by 4 points to 3.
