THE KAISER AT LAW
Berlin. May 3. The Kaiser has again lost the suit which he brought against a tenant on his estate at Cadinen for alleged violation of .the terms of a lease. The tenant took the property' fourteen years ago. at which time he was permitted, to build a house on the estate at his own expense. The Kaiser claimed that the erection, of the house was obligatory, and when the tenant refused to build one. 'the Kaiser sued him. The lower" court gave, judgment for the tenant, whereupon the Emperors lawyers tried a<ruin before a higher tribunal. They were again unsuccessful, and even when a. third trial was instituted at the Kaiser's command, and a third verdict recorded for the defendant, his Majesty refused to be beaten. He appealed to the Supreme Court at Leipzig, the highest court in the Empire, and asked that the verdict of the lower courts be reversed. He has now again been defeated, the Supreme Court upholding the decision of the three other courts, that the defendant was allowed to build a house but was not compelled to do so.
