RAILWAY FARES CONCESSION. By Telegraph—Press Association. ♦ Wellington, Last Night. With reference to the withdrawal by the Railway Department of the concession of 25 per cent, on fares of men sent by the employment bureaux of the Labor Department, to the Government railway and. road works, the Minister for Labor states that the Labor Department will make good the deficiency, so that men who are travelling to work shall not be unduly handicapped. SLY-GROG SELLING. j Dunedin, Last Night. j At the Police Court to-day George , Charles Thurston, formerly a resident of j Gore, was charged with sly-grog selling. Evidence was given as to previous convictions in Gore. Accused was charged under section 105 of the Act, and ranked ,as a first offender. The maximum fine of £SO waj imposed. } PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION. i Wellington, Last Night. A Proportional Representation Society • was formed in Wellington to-night at a I meeting presided over by Mr. D. Mcj Laren, Mayor of Wellington. Among Ithe speakers were the Hon. T. W. Hislop (who introduced a Proportional Representation Bill in the House of RepreIsentatives in 1877), the Hon. J. T. Paul, M.L.C., Mr. P. J. O'Regan (ex-M.P.), and Professor Mills, organiser of the United Labor Party. Mr. T. W. Hislop was elected president, and Sir John Findlay, Mr. D. McLaren and Mr. A. R. Atkinson 5 vice-presidents. I
