MANAWATU CHAMPIONSHIPS. By Telegraph —Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The Manawatu Boxing Association's I finals attracted another big house tonight. In the first bout of the heavy weights Cole 12st (Palmerston) beat Murphy list 81b (Rangiotu) in the second round. In the first bout of the : light-weights, Shields (Dannevirke) 9st., won from Twomey (Wellington), 9st., in five rounds. In the first bout of the feather-weights, Jervis (Tokomaru), Bst 121b., just won from Peter Brown (Palmerston), Ost., after an extra round. 1 In the final of the Ost 71b novice class, Law (Dannevirke) won rather easily from Bell (Pahiatua), who was down for 8 seconds and 9 seconds in the second and third rounds. In the final of the lightweight championship, Havill (Palmerston), 9st 101b,, defeated Bason (Palmerston), 9st 101b, after a good go. Heavy-weight championship.— First round: Holley (Rongotea), Hit, met Follas (Palmerston), after three rounds, creating roars of laughter. Tim Traeey said that he would have liked to order another round, but as the winner had to meet Cole he could not do so, and awarded it to Follas. Feather-weight championship final. — Shields (Dannevirke) beat Jervis (Tokomaru), after two extra rounds, and a great battle. Webby withdrew from the welter championship final, which went to Watchorn by default. Webby said that he was not good enough. Final lOst, 91b. Novice Class.—Ryder (Wellington) defeated Hughes on points. Hughes was down for nine seconds in the first round. Final middle-weight championship Watchorn lOst 81b met Dalziel (Tokomaru), lis 21b. The referee required a fifth round, giving Watchorn the verdict. The heavy-weight final went to Cole by default, Follas withdrawing. Watchorn received the cup for the most scientific boxer.
