GROCERS' WAGES.

A NEW AWARD. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Friday. By the award of the Arbitration Court filed to-day the Wellington grocers' assistants have been given an all-round increase of five shillings a week. The minimum rates from 15 to 16 years are 10s, from lfi to 17 los, 17 to 18 £l, 18 tp 19 £1 ss, 19 to 20 £1 13s, 20 to 21 £2, 21 to 22 £2 ss, 22 and upwards £2 10s. The minimum rate of wages which shall be paid to drivers of the age of 21 and upwards shall he £2 10s a week. No youth under the age of 16 shall be employed in driving. An assistant may not be a driver nor a driver an assistant. Time lost by a worker through illness or default may be deducted from wages. Holidays are lost on the Prince of Wales' Birthday and the annual picnic day. The minimum wage for adult assistants is increased from £2 5s to £2 10s a week. Memberg of the union will not be entitled to preference until the rules of the union have been altered by revoking a clause which in effect imposes a penalty of £5 on any member resigning from the union.
