Fivm cur Resident Importer. STRATFORD BABY SHOW. As far as ono can learn, the .baby show hold' yesterday under the auspices of the Stratford Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Society was Stratford's first baby show. There were 29 entries, and of these no fewer than 24 faced the starter. There were babies of all kinds and all sizes. '■There were eyes of brown, there were eyes of blue, there were eyes of every kind and eyes of every hue. There were babies dark and babies fair;- babies plump and babies fat; babies firm and babies soft; babies crowing and 1 ' '"? glum; but all a credit to the stock when they had come." Xo rhyme intended. They were a fine lot in every way, and, being about the best of thenkind, rosy-cheeked, and "good doers" for the most part, they behaved themselves like little ladies and gentlemen. Their mothers anil guardians certainly had some justification for the proud and defiant looks they wore, and the judges must have had a hard task. The pride of the show was a sturdy child that had seen barely a hundred days, as healthy looking a specimen, and as fat and firm as anyone is likely to find in a day's march. Theresa Fabish was the name of the ,baby who got the special prize for the best baby in the .show, and she hailed from Midhirst, a district that was very well represented. The prizes in the' three classes were allotted as follows: — One to six months.—Gwendoline Iris Aubrey (Waitara) and Richard Lloyd (Stratford). Six to twelve months.—Jim Ingle I (Stratford) 1, Pearl Chainey (Stratford) 2, Jim Gernhoefer (Midhirst),3. Twelve to IS months.—Master Rowson (Kaponga) and Stanley Spackman (Midhirst) equal, 1; Eric Murfitt (Ngaere), Rita Sanson (Stratford), and Jim Bowen (Stratford) equal, 2. ! . BURNING ACCIDENT AT WANGAI " MOMONA.
i Two little children, were admitted to the Stratford hospital yesterday from the Whangamomona district, suffering from severe burns. They wpve, left; by their parents, Mr. and Mrs. '.Coffey, on Sunday last with their grandmother.. By some means the tent in which they were caught fire, and before they could., be .rescued both children—aged'ibnca'nd two years respectively—were badly .burned about the head, the smaller one suffering most. Dr. Steven attended to their injuries at the hospital, and it is hoped there will be no permanent -disfigurement. STRATFORD POULTRY SHOW. SUCCESSFUL INAUGURATION.
■The attendance on Wednesday-night at the poultry show was not" up to Expectations, but on Thursday afternoon the public attended in large numbers, and before the tea adjoiirnmentr'iff was estimated that the society "had made a financial success 'o£. the_ : show;-. ; The officers and committeemen 'are'-'Bertainly deserving of the highest commendation foT'the manner in which the project was carried to such a successful conclusion. TII6 idea of the show emanated from-the Stratford Egg Circle, whose .'members formed themselves into an association and affiliated with the North Island governing body. Various suggestions for the improvement of the show in future years have been noted, among, them being a proposal to include, in tdie,.schedule a tome industries section, and to appoint a ladies' committee, who _would take over the management of" this' division, comprising cookery, preserves, fancy needlework, and .so on.:. The .'.season: is not opportune for a show of toot crops, and it is thought the ladies' apction will be of more interest. :.:;■. SPECIAL PRIZE LIST.

The drama entitled "The Cure of John Douglas" vied last night with the staT drama called "Carr's Regeneration" in the popularity of the public. Tt is a Lubin film, and the plot lis rather unusual. Like its rival it pictures a man's regeneration. Drink was ruining a promising young man in John Douglas, and his sweetheart, Ruth Boyton, finally marripd his rival. Henry Briston. Briston.and some friends concocted a scheme to cure Douglas. While he was in a drunken stupor they painted a spot on
the shirt bosom of one of them to look like Hood. In the unconscious hand of ; Douglas they placed a revolver. When he awoke he believed he had killed his friend. He concealed the body in a large trunk and then wandered through the streets. Meeting a party of friends, ,he confessed what he had done. The revulsion when he discovered that it was all a plan to cure him of 'his bad habit was so great that he never .drank again. The educational pictures stand alone from an art point of view, "Life in a Kaffir Kraal," "First Aid," and the latest Australian Gazette being all clear and flickerless, whilst "Love in an Aeroplane" is stated to be the greatest mirth provoking picture we have had our way.
