HOCKEY.
The Taranaki Ladies' Hockey Association has decided to send a representative team to compete at the New Zealand hockey tournament, which will commence at Auckland on August 28. A trial match is to be played at Inglewood either on July 18 or 20. Clubs affiliated to the Taranaki Association will be looked to for help to finance the team. A third round of the ladies' championshjjp fixtures is to be played in the southern division. The trial match for the selection of the men's touring team will be played at Inglewood to-morrow. Canterbury has beaten Wellington for the shield' and, unless Auckland succeeds in wresting it from the southern team, it is unlikely that Taranaki will put in a challenge. Taranaki will still play the match against Wellington on August 10.
