;' SUMMARY AND FORECAST. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington. Last Night. The Meteorological Department published the following weather summary and forecast at 5 p.m.:—Summary: The barometer rose fast on Saturday and Sunday, with southerly winds, increasing from strong to a gale. The weather became very cold and stormy, with rain and hail, and snow and sleet on the higher levels. The seas were very heavy on the east coast, especially about East Cape, and the conditions are still somewhat unsettled there and in Foveaux Strait. Forecast. Present indications are for moderate to strong southerly winds, generally veering to south-easterly northward of Cook Strait, buf backing to westerly elsewhere. Showery about the East Cape and in Foveaux Strait, and eool and changeable, but with fair weather prevailing generally. The barometer shows little movement, hut will have a falling tendency shortly in southern districts.
