THE PRICE OF MEAT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, June 27. Evidence given before the Food Supply Commission showed that the higher prices of meat were due to the greater demand. Closer settlement was increasing the number of sellers and lowering the quality of the beef. There was no sign of a combination of buyers. ENGLISH DRAUGHT STOCK. Sydney, June 27. With a view to improving the stock on Government farms, three of the finest Clydesdale sires available and three high-class mares in foal to good sires have been purchased in England. AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL. .Sydney, June 27. The Herald states that owing to the feeling of insecurity, as the result of land taxation and Labor Union domination, now outlets arc being sought for Australian capital. Some big pastoral institutions have their eyes on the Argentine. One group, representing a capital of £ 1.250.000, has gone to Buenos Ayres to investigate. Another big group has also despatched a representative.
SHEEP AFFECTED BY DROUGHT. Sydney, June 27. The effects of the drought' are apparent in the decline of entries at the sheep show. The quality, however, is good. BIG ORDER FOR LOCOMOTIVES. Sydney, June 27. The Government is placing an order for 100 locomotives with a private firm in Sydney, to cost half a million. CREW FOR THE AUSTRALIA. Sydney, June 27. The Challenger's crew included 250 Australian officers and sailors. It is expected that later the bulk will transfer to the cruiser Australia. TELEGRAPHISTS' GRIEVANCES. Melbourne, June 27. The Postmaster-General, 'referring to the telegraphists' grievances, advised them to pause before jumping to submit them to the Arbitration Court.
THE MAORT VILLAGE. Sydney, June 27. Application was mack to Mr. Justice Ferguson for an order calling upon tile arbitrators appointed in connection with the dispute amongst the Maori Village Syndicate to state a special case for the court. After exhibiting .in Sydney, a meeting of the promoters was held at which one, Dr. Colley, was not present, and it was resolved to send the Maori? to London. The expenses incurred brought Dr. Colley's subscription to ;£3OO more than his original share. Dr. Colley denied the additional responsibility, hence the application. The hearing was not iinislied. °
