THE LICENSING . POLL. ' By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the New Zealand Alliance convention to-day Mr. Wesley Spragg was reelected president without opposition. The convention decided that in the event of the matter of the separation of the licensing poll from the Parliamentary poll coming up during the year, this convention instructs its executive t'o oppose it. It was also resolved that the Government be requested to amend section 12 of the Licensing Act to provide that in the event of a dissolution of Parliament before it has been in existence eighteen months, 110 licensing poll shall be taken at the electoral poll for the new Parliament at such election, but 011 the day fixed for the, poll at tile next succeeding general election. Wellington. Last Night. The New Zealand Alliance has decided to request the executive to arrange for organising the whole Dominion into groups of electorates, each group to arrange for. skilled organisers; also that the executive take steps to secure the nomination and return of candidates pledged to support the bare majority. In view of the horse-play and niffianiv interference to which open-air speakers are frequently subjected, the Government is to be asked to secure such amendments or alterations to the Police. Offences Act as will protect the British right of freedom of speech; also that the present law applying to no-license areas be made to apply to .proclaimed areas. It was decided that the executive formulate and prosecute a scheme for the institution of a lectureship in memory of the late Mr. T. E. Taylor, .and that arrangements be made for issuing at an oarlv date a life of Mr. T. E. Taylor.
