ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
NOT A CASE OF SUICIDE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. At the inqueßt on G. Z. Quarrie, who died suddenly on Monday night, evidence was given by his wife that, in her opinion, her husband had taken poison in mistake. He had no financial troubles. A verdict of death by misadventure was returned. A FARMER'S SUICIDE. Carterton, Wednesday. An inquest was held this morning on the botiy of the man J. T. Smart, of Longbush, aged 61, who was found with his throat cut. Deceased's affairs were in good order and he had no financial worries. He had £6OO at fixed deposit in the bank and had recently exchanged a farm at Longbush for one at Makuri, and possession was to have been taken to-day. Deceased received £3OOO for the deal. A verdict was returned that deceased committed suicide while temporarily insane by cutting his throat in such a manner as to cause death.
FOUND DROWNED. Gore, Wednesday. At the inquest at Waikaia, on Edward McMillan, found in the Waikaia river on Sunday, the. medical evidence stated that death was due to drowning. A verdict of found drowned was returned. LYSOL POISONING. Wellington, Last Night. Helen Mdlwraith, residing at Newtown, died this afternoon, it is believed, from lysol poisoning, self-administered. She was the widow of T. Mdlwraith, who was for many years employed in the Union Company's repairing* yard. SSnce his death she had been in illhealth, suffering from insomnia imkl general depression. She leaves two children, aged 17 and 22 n spectively.
