A meeting of the Special Committee of the Maritime League, consisting of members of the House of Commons, adopted a resolution in favor of the immediate arming of a number of merchantmen to act as auxiliary cruisers in wartime and protect unguarded shipping routes. Lord Beresford, supporting the suggestion, declared that this was the most effective and cheapest method of meeting danger.
