THE MEDITERRANEAN FLEET. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 26, 10.50 p.m. London, June 26. In the House of Commons, Mr. Churchill, in reply to questions, said that the Mediterranean battleships had been withdrawn to participate in the manoeuvres. Before these were over, the House would be enabled to hear a full statement of the Government's intention. A MARITIME FLEET. London, June 26. A meeting of the Special Committee of the Maritime League, consisting of members of the House of Commons, adopted a resolution in favor of the immediate arming of a number of merchantmen to act as auxiliary cruisers in wartime and protect unguarded shipping routes. Lord Beresford, supporting the suggestion, declared that this was the most effective and cheapest method of meeting danger.
