NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW

TARANAKI CHEESE SUCCESSFUL, i By Telegraph—Press Association. \ Palmerston N., Tuesday. | The ninth National Dairy Show was opened by Lord Islington in fine but dull weather to-day. In many respects < *he show is superior to the previous ( fixtures. The agreement arrived at with the Poultry Association resulted in a splendid exhibition of poultry, one of the beßt ever seen in Palmerston. As usual the cheese and butter competitions 1 form an important section. The judges' are well pleased on the whole, and in criticism point out that some of the but-; ter entries have suffered from the comparatively long storage test, and a certain amount of staleness. A larger number than usual lost points for color* which was put down to improper working. The cheeses are representative of' all the North Island factories, and are of better appearance than usual. The New Zealand cheese championship, awarded for the highest aggregate scored in grading points in three classes, was won by the Rowan factory of the Kaponga Company, with 280' points. Tariki, with 279% points, was second. and Kaponga, with 276, third.
