In reply to Mr. Deakin's criticisms, he defended the Commonwealth Bank land tax. The bank's circulation, Bank and the land tax. The bank's circulation, he said, was more than double that of all private banks. It produced a net interest of £IBO,OOO. The land taxhad broken up 1000 large estates into 29,000 small farms. He further eulogised the conduct of the Brisabne strikers.
