The sailing list for 1912-13 of the Oceanic Steamship Company, for the San Francisco-Sydney service, lias just been published. It has been decided that the vessels will not call at Auckland, as was at first suggested. The new service will be maintained by the steamers Sonoma and Ventura, which were previously employed in the old San Francisco-Auck-land-Sydney service. These vessels have been fitted with oil-burners, thus doing away with the troubles which are so constantly being experienced with firemen. The steamers are of 10,000 displacement, and are capable of steaming over 17 knots an hour. Each is fitted with a wireless apparatus. The service will be inaugurated by the Sonoma from Sydney, the ports of call en route being Pago Pago (Samoa) and Honolulu. The vessels irill run under contract with the United States Government, and the voyage is to be accomplished in 19 days from Sydney to San Francisco, and 20 days from the Californian port to Sydney. By this route, mails will reach London in 29 day 3 from the time of leaving Sydney. The service will be a 28 days' one.
